I’m Getting Older
April 21, 2007
I’m happy that I’m given what I don’t ask… get older that I ever imagined I would.
I was born during the most turbulent time of the Philippine history. Five months after I saw the light, Marcos declared martial law. Two decades of killing and injustice followed. Life of people became cheaper than the lead at the tip of a bullet. “Salvaging” is the name of the day. I saw saw children became orphans and parents became childless as they are caught in a cross fire.
I also witnessed a very powerful man being toppled by poor defenseless people in 1986. In the world arena, I was able to witness predictions became a reality. Of wars and agreements among nations. Of hatred between races and cooperation among past enemies. I’m part of a generation who witness how communism is lost and how capitalism prevailed.
I also grow up in an environment where the world has changed at a rate never imagined in the history of mankind. Technology has invaded every aspect of life – including religion. A time where the world is said to “shrink” due the new technologies in transportation and communication.
I’m 35 now! And I feel lucky that I grow in a world like the one have. Its complicated yet challanging. A world where you don’t reason to get bored although you may have a great chance of beiing confused.
I’m getting older… but I feel like I’m still young. I have many things to explore and thinker and experiment and most of all … many blessings to appreciate and be thankful of.
